Practical Driving Test
If you have passed the theory
test you can now apply for your Practical Driving Test.
To reach the required standard I will need to see that you can
drive and control your car safely and smoothly, with full awareness
of other road users and consideration for the road, weather and
traffic conditions and can competently perform all the slow manoeuvres,
with only the minimal instructions given by myself.
Car
The car you use for the driving test must be fitted
with the appropriate mirrors, headrests, L-plates, tax and appropriate
Insurance. The vehicle also needs to be in clean and good working
condition capable of normal performance for that type of vehicle
With Lifestyle Driving School you will normally have the opportunity
to take the test in the Instructors car.
Documents
1. Your signed provisional driving licence.
2. Your theory test pass certificate.
3. An acceptable document which includes you photo and signature.
4. The new photo driving licence with the counter part.
Item 3 can be any of the following:-
A passport, workplace identity card, student or trades union membership
card or photo bearing version of a cheque or credit card.
If none of these are available, you must provide a photo of yourself
which has been certified by an acceptable person, who can be an
Approved Driving Instructor, an MP, A Justice of the Peace, a
minister of Religion, a lawyer, a doctor, a teacher a local councillor,
a police officer, or a commissioned officer in Her Majesty's armed
forces.
You
Try to arrive at the test centre in plenty of
time and try to relax.
Have confidence in yourself that you are at a good standard to
drive.
All the examiner wants to see you do is drive without being a
hazard to any other road users.
After introducing himself, the examiner will get in the front
passenger seat and explain briefly to you how the test works.
You will then be asked to start the car and move away.
You have about 35-40 minutes in the car enough time to do two
of the three possible slow manoeuvres such as turn in the road,
reversing round a corner or reverse parking behind a car and you
may be asked to do an emergency stop.
The reverse bay-parking manoeuvre may take place off road at the
test centre. During the test it is also likely that you will be
asked to demonstrate a hill start and an angled start. The rest
of the time is taken up with general driving on the chosen test
route.
You will be expected to deal competently and safely with every
situation that you find but some minor driving errors or faults
are permitted as long as they are not considered to create an
actual or potential danger to other road users. They are recorded
on the examiners test form, too many and you will fail.
You will also fail your test if you make any serious or dangerous
errors during the drive.
Conclusion
When you have switched off the engine at the end
of the test the examiner will tell you whether you have passed
or failed; if you have passed your driving licence will be required
for the examiner to fill in the pass certificate. You need to
send this to the DVLA with your provisional licence and you will
receive your full licence a few days later. You can in the meantime
drive on your own providing you keep a record of your Driver Number.
